CATALANS WITHOUT BORDERS
350 years of the Treaty of the Pyrenees
350 years ago, the Treaty of the Pyrenees put an end to a war by dividing the Catalans’ territory between two states, Spain and France. This led to cultural and linguistic repression which, despite everything, has not managed to cleanse these lands of their Catalan nature. The beginning of the 21st century has seen an increase in the desire to continue doing away with the border imposed 350 years ago, in the wish to progress in building cultural, social and economic links to work towards a common future for the north and south of Catalonia.
Òmnium Cultural promotes the campaign “Catalans without Borders” (Catalans sense Fronteres) by means of an ongoing partnership between organisations in Northern Catalonia and the rest of the country. "Catalans without Borders" has a twin mission: to explain and raise awareness of this historical fact amongst the general population and to initiate new projects linking organisations and official bodies in the north and south of Catalonia.
The first step in this campaign has been to draw up a manifesto which we have distributed amongst organisations and individuals to win followers and strengthen links between organisations and people from the north and south of Catalonia.
