Spanish public prosecutor, Mar\u00eda Jos\u00e9 Segarra, and the Spanish Ombudsman, Francisco Fern\u00e1ndez Marug\u00e1n, the largest network of NGOs against torture and inhumane treatment in the world has called for the immediate release of two civil society leaders, \u00d2mnium Cultural&#8217;s president Jordi Cuixart and the former head of ANC, Jordi S\u00e0nchez.<\/p>\n<p>The World Organization Against Torture (OMCT) finds the accusations against the civil society leaders unfounded and demands they should be dropped, arguing that keeping them in custody is a disproportionate restriction on their fundamental rights.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In summary, the OMCT states that:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The preventive imprisonment of Cuixart and S\u00e0nchez is arbitrary<\/li>\n<li>Civil society leaders must have a fair trial<\/li>\n<li>Arbitrary detention and judicial harassment against civil\u00a0society leaders are a disproportionate restriction of their fundamental rights<\/li>\n<li>The charges against them are unfounded and, therefore, they must be withdrawn<\/li>\n<li>Civil society leaders cannot be tried by the Supreme
