The Canigou Flame (La Flama del Canigó)

Every June 23rd, people from all around the Catalan-speaking region climb the top of the Canigou mountain, where a flame is lit. From there, they all carry that flame to their hometown, lightning the bonfires of the Saint John night, that welcome the summer with a traditional celebration of the summer solstice. It is an ancestral feast, a symbol of the bond that unites the Catalan-speaking territories. The fire is distributed to around 500 different municipalities.
